I didn't believe that I

I was sure that they helped me cope, that was until

Within the last few years
I had lost both my parents through diseases caused
by smoking, my mother had heart disease and high blood
pressure which led to a fatal stroke, and my father
had cancer of the prostate and the throat, which caused
a very slow and suffering death despite treatment,
in both cases their diseases were directly attributed
to smoking. I fooled myself throughout their illnesses
that it wouldn't happen to me and kept on smoking
myself ! then I woke up to reality and had the laser
treatment, I know there are no guarantees in life,
but I now realise I have considerably reduced the
risk of dying the same way, and I feel a whole lot
better for it. There is nothing worse than a ex-smoker
on their "soap box" but I would plea to
anyone who thinks they will not suffer long term from
smoking, I would not wish it on anyone to see the
people that they love die in such a horrible way,
especially as it possibly could have been avoided.

Standing outside my office
in all weathers having a puff and feeling very stupid
when other members of staff asked why I smoke ! I
finally ran out of a lifetime of excuses, and a friend
had recently had this laser acupuncture smoking cessation
program, and I thought I would have to give it a go
having tried so many other ways to quit, i.e.; nicotine

I had just had surgery to
remove 80% of my pancreas because of a tumour, it
was hell, I did not know if I would survive this,
I asked the surgeon why ? and he said that it was
quite common in smokers, so I had better quit smoking
or it could return. I suffered for a year feeling
very ill but still smoking ! (oh well, if I'm going
to die then etc, etc,) then I pulled round and found
new strength and took a new attitude, its not going
to beat me ! I realised that the problem was still
smoking, so I had to quit ! and I knew it was going
to be hard. After the laser treatment and counselling
and a "Diet and de-tox" plan, I stopped
and my sugar levels are nearly back to normal, I feel
ten times better, its changed my life for the better,
I feel so much more positive about things, because
I feel in control of my life instead of being controlled
by smoking, and I'm fitter now than when I was younger

I participated in Smoke
Busters program as part of a study in "Health
& Fitness" magazine article, to find which
method was the most successful at quitting smoking,
they used 5 different people and methods. Thankfully
